Wow, I had successfully forgotten that this day ever occurred, and now I am forced to think about what happened.\u00a0 Or what did not happen.\u00a0 We began in Beatrice, NE, and I elected to target western Illinois.\u00a0 Overall potential looked to be better in the trees and hills of southern Missouri, but I did not want to chase in such a lousy chase area.\u00a0 It looked like there could be some severe weather just east of the Mississippi River around Quincy, as storm cells moved quickly northeast out of MO.\u00a0 We observed a handful of these pathetic and junky thunderstorms in the Liberty and Pittsfield area.\u00a0 Nothing looked particularly organized, much less photogenic.\u00a0 I guess that this is the norm this far east —- the great storm structure one might routinely see on the High Plains is difficult to come by in the Corn Belt.\u00a0 By suppertime we were blasting south towards St. Louis to try to salvage something.\u00a0 A tornado-warned cell was menacing the south side of the city, and we arrived in time to see some lightning after dark.\u00a0 Big whoop.\u00a0 And, when I say “after dark”, I actually mean “after light”, because it was dark out.\u00a0 I took the camera out for this sunset shot.<\/p>\n
