December 4, 2006 LAX at night, LAX at dawn

These were taken from the weather observation platform of the control tower at Los Angeles International Airport.

These 14 obelisks on the east side of LAX change colors throughout the night. I have no idea what they signify. Maybe they represent the 14 continents, or the 14 planets, or the 14 best security personnel at the airport. (Uh-oh, the old control tower might be blocking more obelisks.  There could in fact be additional, yet undiscovered obelisks!)  In these views at dawn looking east, San Gorgonio Mountain (el. 11, 502 ft., behind obelisks) and San Jacinto Peak (el. 10804 ft., above and to the right of the obelisks) are easily visible. Both peaks are about 85-90 miles distant.
