May 9, 2009 Llano, TX bust chase

May 9, 2009 By Bill Leave a Comment

Yesterday was a very long day, a chase from Emporia, KS, to Brownwood, TX.  Today we began a lot closer to where we the action would be, presumably.  One chase option was in and around the Dallas area.  I didn’t like that idea.  Another option was farther south, in central Texas, not too far from Brownwwod.  The cap would be harder to break for the southern play, but I decided to target it.  Storms went up as expected in the DFW area (and damaged a Dallas Cowboy practice facility), but no updrafts were able to break through the warm mid-levels in and around Llano County.  We stopped in Llano while waiting for storms.  No luck.
