From Portales, NM, we headed north towards the western OK PH. Conditions appeared favorable for supercells here, and as it turned out, we overshot to the north a little too much. After lunch in Logan, NM, we motored northeast to Boise City…and eventually dropped back south towards Dumas. A supercell took shape between Hartley and Dumas and moved slowly eastward. We joined the throngs on the west side of Dumas, and stayed in front of the updraft base towards Stinnett along FM 152. Unfortunately (for storm chasers hoping for such activity) the cell was unable to produce a long-lived tornado. There were apparently numerous tornadic touchdowns, but these fell into the weak, brief, and partially-obscured genres for the most part. We managed to see little in the way of tornadoes, and were too close to the updraft to witness the very impressive storm structure —- shoot. By dusk we were near Borger with a look at the structure to the north.
