A good chase day for many, but our group was unable to reach the target area in time. This was the “arrival day” in Oklahoma City for the next tour group. We were unable to get out of town as early as we had hoped, and were near Gage, OK, when the tornadic supercell was in progress between Booker and Slapout, less than 30 miles distant.
We watched a parade of cells lift northward through Lipscomb County. None appeared particularly suited for tornado production. One cell became a big-hail maker between Lipscomb and Darrouzett, and we found a safe spot in Follett to ride it out. This wound up too far east and only small hail was observed. These storms were outflowish and became tiresome, so we headed south and southwest towards Miami. Not too far west of Miami was the tail-end of the activity, and we stopped to shoot the convection at sunset.
