February 20, 2011 Snow-capped San Gabriels

February 20, 2011 By Bill Leave a Comment

A cold storm provided Los Angeles and vicinity with rain, some thunder and small hail, and low snow levels on Friday and Saturday (Feb 18 and 19).  Sunday began cold and partly cloudy in the San Fernando Valley, with areas of fog.  The clouds and fog didn’t last long, and bright sunshine was soon reflecting off of the snow mantling the San Gabriel Mountains.  Snow was down to about the 3000 foot level, and was even on the very top of the Santa Susana Mountains north of Chatsworth.  As usual, I was working the weekend morning weather observer shift at Van Nuys Airport, and I had my camera, long and wide lenses, and tripod with me!  Enjoy your flight…
