A cold front cleared most of TX and we found ourselves with cool and overcast conditions at Fort Stockton on the 8th. There was a small chance for a strong storm in and around the Big Bend region later on, so we headed south, lunched in Alpine, and continued to Presidio. A storm went up near Presidio during the afternoon, but it was not very strong. We were content to motor along the Rio Grande towards our motel at Terlingua, with a few scenery photo ops along the way.
Shafter is a tiny town north of Presidio, in a pretty canyon setting (along the Cibolo River). It is an old silver mining town, and boasts about eleven residents.
These images were taken along Route 170 between Presidio and Lajitas.
May 9 was mostly cloudy and very pleasant in and around the mountains of the Big Bend National Park. There were no storms, and we wound up in Del Rio for the night.
