Bruiser gave me a nice, used Zeiss 21mm 2.8 wide angle lens for Christmas, and Mr. Stormeffects was curious as to the sharpness in the corners. I put the lens on the 5D, stuck the camera on a tripod, and took a few shots out back. Here are some of them—-they are a little larger than normal to help those with decaying eyesight.
In image 9638, the bright star Capella is in the upper right. The following image (9638 upperright) is heavily cropped and shows Capella and the extreme upper right corner of 9638. This is where distortion would be greatest, and the Zeiss does a pretty good job here. The next image is the extreme upper left corner of image 9638. These are 15 to 30 second exposures, so there is a little bit of star trail evident.
