Our hopes were somewhat elevated on this chase day, as it looked to be our best chance for a tornado on the tour. We began in Dodge City, and attached ourselves to a developing supercell south of there, near Sitka and Protection in Clark County.
It exhibited some pretty, skeletal storm structure as it slowly moved to the east. From a spot east of Protection, KS, we watched the supercell dump a bunch of precip and die. What to do now?!
I elected to chase its remains east to Medicine Lodge, and none of the storms in the area were able to get really strong again. Fortunately, we had a very nice CG lightning show to photograph near the OK/KS border that evening.
