Tour 3 began out of OKC on May 13th. The weather was fair, so we made a leisurely drive to Childress in order to be better positioned for severe weather in TX on Day 2. We took a couple of breaks along the way to take in the local scenery.
On May 14, we had lunch in Sweetwater, and continued south and southwest to the Big Lake area. A severe storm with some marginal supercell structure was intercepted near Rankin, in southern Upton County. It went outflow-dominant fairly quickly, kicked up the Texas dust, and chased us east to Big Lake and Barnhart. We shot a little lightning north of Barnhart and drove to Abilene for the night.
