On this day, there was a long-lived supercell right through my target area during the afternoon. The problem — it traversed eastward right along the WY/MT border through a remote area with zero adequate road options. We waited around Lame Deer, MT for an hour or two during the early afternoon. A strong and long-lasting cell came chugging along eastward through Sheridan and into the relatively empty Custer National Forest area south and southeast of Lame Deer. All we could do was get distant glimpses of the storm to the south. We raced east to Broadus and then south to Biddle along Highway 59. We beat the supercell…but it was dying now, just as happened the day prior! I was so unimpressed and miffed that I took zero pictures during the entire “chase”. We continued south to Gillette, and then south of there to take a look at a High Plains junky storm with a double rainbow and then some lightning. It was too little too late to placate me on this long chase day. We made the long drive to Hot Springs, SD, for the night.
