Death Valley’s official weather station in Furnace Creek recorded a temperature of 129F on Sunday, June 30, 2013. The initial maximum temperature report to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas on Sunday afternoon was a high of 128F, but the temperature crept up to 129F shortly thereafter. note — 127F at Iron Mountain is dubious, given that its previous record high temp was only 122F. Apparently the 127F was on June 28 — I’ll need to find out what the obs were on the 29th and 30th.
FINALLY — as you may know, I believe, without a doubt now, that the 130-plus temperature records from Death Valley/Greenland Ranch in July 1913 are not credible. It is kind of sad that these new temperature records of 129F at Death Valley are overshadowed by untrustworthy figures from 100 years ago.
