This bird with the red head was pecking wood, so I am going to hazard that it was a red-headed woodpecker. But, a check of Al Gore’s Internet showed that all of the head and much of the neck of a real red-headed woodpecker is red, while only the top of the head of the woodpecker in the tree outside of my home is red. So maybe it isn’t a red-headed woodpecker. Maybe it is a red-scalped woodpecker. Sadly, red-scalped woodpeckers have yet to be formally named. I think the best name for it might be “treebird.”
