On this Monday Tempest Tours managed to catch a pretty supercell that was trekking eastbound along I-80 in the southern Nebraska Panhandle. During the mid-afternoon we watched some junk sputter to our west from near Bridgeport…then abandoned that for boom-or-bust potential 90 miles east near North Platte. We quickly abandoned that idea at Sutherland when the nearby cumulus field failed. We dashed back west on I-80 (another 90-100 miles!) as a couple of new supercells gained strength. We chose the southern one due to easier access and better lighting. It was high-based and quite photogenic—-not bad for a day that went from slight risk to see text to slight risk to see text. Our resting place for the night was Ogallala.
