Today was the final chase day for this tour, and we were fortunate that the target area was not too far from our base city of Denver. We left Ogallala with a target of northwest Kansas in mind. We hung out along Highway 36 for much of the afternoon, and wound with a bunch of convection to choose from west and southwest of Atwood. I went for a storm on the north end of a line, west of Atwood. It looked like a nice supercell for a little while, with some low-level swirls and the suggestion of a wall cloud and low-level organization. But, this did not persist, and we raced eastward, east of Atwood, to photograph structure that had more of a linear and outflowish look. The convection weakened much too quickly for my liking, and before sunset we were heading back into eastern Colorado to get a head start back to Denver. Our tour group enjoyed a fine dinner at a steak house in the tiny town of Idalia, CO.
