Hooray —- I had a full day off from work and there was no moon. I had a chance to head to the Death Valley region to photograph Comet Lovejoy from really dark skies while it was still bright. The astro pics can be found in a separate entry. This post provides a look at some of the sights and scenery on the drive from about Mojave to Trona and the Panamint Valley on January 19th.
Above is Mojave Airport, where many large and old jetliners go to age gracefully in the sun.
The images above were from the Garlock/Randsburg area, and the five below were in and around Trona.
The shadows on the Slate Range, near sunset, were quite nice (below).
And the Panamint Range was its usual gorgeous self as I descended into the Panamint Valley and the shadows grew long. Telescope Peak caught the final sun rays of the day in the last image.
