Tempest Tour 2 wrapped up their tour on May 10 in OKC, and I flew back to OKC from L.A. in time to meet the new group (Tour 3) on May 11. The previous several days had been fairly active on the Plains, but I was not chasing from May 8 through May 10. As often happens, a slow chase period developed following the active period of May 5 to May 10. The tour group had an easy positioning day on May 11 (OKC to LBB), and on the 12th there was a risk of primarily non-severe storms way down south in the Big-Bend region and Far West Texas. I remember next to nothing, but my notes say that we observed junky and messy storms from Van Horn to Marfa. We stopped at a Prada shoe store in the rain at dusk, north of Marfa.
On the 13th, SPC showed a slight risk along the Rio Grande near Sanderson. We played that area, and witnessed a nice HP supercell north-northeast of Dryden. The next couple of days were looking good much farther north, so we spent a good chunk of the evening driving back north to our motel in Lubbock.
