We began this chase day in Dodge City, and I blew off the moderate risk down in southern OK and northern TX. I was not interested in a long drive to see messy and grungy storms in the trees and floods. I targeted central Kansas, and we watched convection develop west of McPherson. We were drawn north to Marquette, and then west of Marquette, where we tried to avoid rain cores to get a glimpse of the storm bases. There were several, and none of them were very intriguing. But, they seemed to want to rotate at least a little. For some reason I decided to check out a cell that was on the south edge of Marquette, so we headed south through the town. Just then, a tornado warning was issued for our location and we suddenly found ourselves in some fast-moving rain curtains! These were rotating around Road 1064, south of Marquette. Well, we were in the right place at the right time, but whatever it was that we were near dissipated pretty quickly. We spent the next few hours watching a broken line of storms that went back to the southwest towards Lyons.
