Yes, the title is rather vague. But, there wasn’t much interesting happening on this chase day, so a lame title is in order. Storms went up somewhat early in the afternoon in the vicinity of Dean’s house, south of North Platte. These moved northeast towards us somewhere around Cozad and Gothenburg. The storms, though supercellular, were ho-hum looking. Maybe I am just getting jaded. One of them dropped some 3-inch-diameter hail north of Lexington. We were just south of that noise, in Lexington, watching some nearby CGs.
With plenty of storms gobbling up the instability by mid-afternoon, interim tour director Chris Gullikson elected to head east to find some better air and to be in good position for the next day’s chase. I was in my X-terra. I had to fly back to L.A. from Denver in a couple of days and was not interested in a long drive back west from northwestern Missouri on the 12th. So, I wished the group good luck and meandered back to the southwest into northwestern Kansas. The storms there were duds, but I was in good position for a great solo chase in southeastern Colorado on the 11th.
