Marcia and I got out of Lone Pine at about 5:30 a.m. and made our way east to Death Valley for some sunrise photography. The weather near Stovepipe Wells and the Mesquite Dunes was very chilly — in the 30s — but there was no wind. A lot of cirrus clouds were around, but the nice sunrise colors had come and gone by the time we were trudging from the main road to the sand.
The dunes had a definite “trampled” look as the last good breeze must have been a few days back. We found a decent area with some relatively undisturbed sand on the west end of the sand dunes, and it was difficult to NOT take a pretty picture!
