Rook and Tom and I were minding our own business, wandering around the Carrizo Plain and looking for wildflowers to photograph, when we came upon numerous dust devils cranking up on the dry salt playa in the basin bottom. There looked to be a line of surface convergence above the basin, and right above the playa. A line of cumulus developed above, and dust devils repeatedly formed above the sunlit playa. Many dust devils became quite strong. These persisted for a minute or two, as new ones developed in their wake.
