April 21, reposition day; start Lubbock, end Clayton, NM, 304 miles; lunch at the Big Texan
April 22, start Clayton, end Ulysses, KS, 295 miles; lunch at the Sierra Grande Mexican place in Des Moines, NM
The final couple of days for Tour A were rather slow, as good moisture was in short supply on the Great Plains. On April 21st, we visited the old abandoned “Bunker Hill” school near Dalhart, and later some old buildings in Sedan, NM. On the 22nd, we took a scenic drive through remote country near the CO/NM border north of Clayton, and watched some high-based/moisture-starved junk develop near Branson, CO. This activity looked halfway interesting near Springfield, and the colors were nice as we edged into western Kansas, near Johnson. The highlight on the following day was an owl’s nest with a few owls — where the heck was that?!
