I think that every chaser knows where Baca County is. Is there a better-known county on the Plains?
This was the first chase day for Tour 4, out of OKC, with Tempest guides Woody and Justin (the Nicotine). There was a slight risk way down in TX, primarily south of Abilene. Since the tornado potential was poor, the target distant, and the next day we needed to be near the w TX/e NM border west of Amarillo, or thereabouts, I decided to head west from OKC to be in good shape for Day Two.
Moisture was meager, but there was a chance of some high-based convection in and around extreme southeastern Colorado. That is what we wound up with. And, if you prefer not to have a sentence end with a preposition: “That is with which we wound up.” Oops — I hope that the word “up” is not a preposition in this case. How about “That is with which our up was wound.” That sounds pretty good. We went to Baca County for some high-based junky convection, and that is with which our up was wound.
Oh, yes, we witnessed a big and bright rainbow near Campo, and then went to Lamar for the night. Note that Woody is well aware of the correct compass quadrant in which the rainbow appears.
