Lunch at Reata in Alpine
Our tour group began the chase day way out west, in the Southwest Texas town of Alpine. SPC had a large area of only “marginal” risk for severe on the High Plains, with a slight risk much farther east over central TX. We took our chances on the high terrain play, as shear was decent and instability was not too shabby. Expectations were low. We killed some time in Alpine and then perhaps Marfa. Who can remember these things?
A cell north of Alpine failed to impress early on. We headed to the Marfa area, and wound up west of town to watch a nice, laminar shelfy-type feature come out of Mexico. There may have been a moment or two when the storm wrapped up a little to give us a cheap thrill. The activity took us back to Alpine for the night.
