A large wildfire was in progress on this afternoon, well to my west, in Santa Barbara County. Even though it was more than 70 miles away, the smoke plume was quite prominent at around 6 p.m. I thought it might make for some interesting photography in an hour or two, with the sun setting near the plume. I marched up the trail on the nearby hillside with my camera bag and tripod, and made it to the top with plenty of time before sunset. But, dang, the smoke plume was pathetic now. It was just a measly, scrawny “puff” at best. But, there were some distant smoke layers around, so maybe the sunset would be pretty. I wound up with some pretty “zoom” shots of the sunset and the Thousand Oaks/Newbury Park area with the zoom lens. The major interchange is the 101/23.
