The Thomas Fire, from Fillmore to Montecito and Carpenteria, persisted for much of December. On the 9th, Rook and I headed out to find something interesting to photograph. We tried to get close to Ojai, but roads were closed. We headed to Carpenteria, and just found more dull smoke and closed roads. We wound up at a burned-out nursery a little west of Ventura. A day or two prior to that I drove to Santa Barbara, and saw an interesting low-level smoke layer over the ocean. The final photos below show a smoke plume, looking from Moorpark towards Fillmore.
