April 30, 2018 Canadian, Texas supercell

Begin:  Garden City, Kansas

End:

SPC Day One (20Z)

Moisture was a little better today, with dew points into the mid-50s into the eastern Texas Panhandle.  We were along I-40 west of Shamrock, and headed down 83 towards a developing storm.  This one struggled.  We went north a little to another one, maybe dropped a little south to the original one.  These cells were mediocre at best.  One a little south of Shamrock had some pretty good structure for about 10 minutes.  When we got close, it fizzled.

Some small cumulus clouds were developing to our NNW, north of I-40.  I decided to head north as sunset neared, in case this area perked up.  As we reached Canadian, there was a wimpy cell or two around.  During a pit stop at Canadian, a storm quickly developed and organized just south of town.  It looked nice in the sunset light, and I was wishing that we weren’t in town at this point in time!  We scooted NNE a few miles from here to watch the supercell at dusk.  Lightning wasn’t very frequent as the storm struggled for the most part.
