August 5, 2018 Sea Lions and Cormorants on San Nicolas Island

August 5, 2018 By William Reid Leave a Comment

On this nice and sunny afternoon, I headed to the eastern end of San Nicolas Island with the camera and long lens.  One section of coastline in particular was awash with bird life and plenty of sea lions.  This was east of the pier, on the rocky coast that faces east.

I have learned that sea lions have the long flippers and seals do not, so these are sea lions.  And apparently there are plenty of different kinds of cormorants.  We will call these black cormorants.

The close-up shots of sea lions on the sand (below) were from the pier.  On my return to Nicktown, I stopped at the Shipwreck Beach for a few more photos.
