I arrived at LAX late in the afternoon this day to pick up a friend. I drove through some thick fog along PCH in Malibu and Santa Monica on the way. “How could planes land in this murk,” I thought! Planes were landing though. I was maybe 40 minutes early, and I had my cameras with me. I parked a few blocks away from a prime landing-viewing spot along Sepulveda, near In-N-Out Burger. Official visibility was only a quarter mile, and I could not even see the control tower at times. But the planes kept on coming. The fog was somewhat patchy, so the conditions tended to change quickly from kind-of foggy to not-too foggy. The saturated air was allowing prominent vapor trails (contrails) off of the wings — WOW! This was a bonanza. I need to do this again.
