December 7, 2018 Fire-scarred Canyon in Westlake Village

December 7, 2018 By William Reid Leave a Comment

The Woolsey Fire burned the canyon that is adjacent to my home, and I took my camera to the area a week or two after the event.  There were some blackened trees and limbs here and there, and little else!  The lower reaches of the drainage contained a weird mass of rocks and concrete slabs.  I don’t know why or how this stuff wound up here, but with all of the brush now gone, it was easy to explore.  On one of the rocks was an interesting shell pattern, and I have been advised that this is a scallop fossil, millions of years old!
