Andy and I had some free time on this lovely afternoon on the island, so we headed to the east end, where the pier is. The road gets squeezed between the cliffs and the beach in one place, and here we were very close to a lot of elephant seals. There was a big male in the surf zone, and a bunch of momma seals with new pups on the sand. It looked like some pups had just been born, as there was blood on the sand and even some afterbirth remnants. The gulls were trying to pull this away for a meal.
Below are a couple of pics of Nicktown, looking to the northeast. Later, a couple of foxes were fighting in the new, tall grass near the power plant, and the ducks were having an easy day at the sewer ponds.
