The weather pattern continued to be poorer-than-normal for mid-June, and we had another down day to endure. Thunderstorms looked likely the following day around the western Oklahoma Panhandle, so on this day I decided to take a Sunday drive to Kenton, the Black Mesa area, and the pretty gravel road stretch (Hwy 456) along the Cimarron River in northeastern New Mexico. I wanted to see how good unpaved State Hwy 370 was to Clayton, and it was excellent! We found a nice abandoned house on the flatlands north of Clayton here. An isolated thunderstorm went up well to our west after sunset, after we had checked in at Clayton. The storm was a dud, with just a few lightning flashes.
