We woke up pretty much where we needed to be on this chase day — in Raton and in the marginal risk area along I-25 near the Raton Mesa. Shear and instability were barely enough for a supercell chance. We had a late breakfast and then went a little north, took some group pictures in Trinidad, and then explored a little place called Gulnare, Colorado (southwest of Aguilar).
A decent CB went up back towards Trinidad and hailed on us a bit. This one fizzled, and we went for a second storm close to Raton. We went east of Raton with the hope that the storm would move east, but it kind of sat in the same place, with some marginally interesting structure.
This one also died, so we charged north on I-25 to a new storm that was crossing the Interstate near Colorado City. We watched this one drift off to our ENE at dusk.
