The Great Plains region was short on moisture, but there was enough for some high-based storms on the high terrain during the late afternoon on May 19th. We had plenty of time to kill along and near the Cheyenne Ridge, so we visited Curt Gowdy State Park and the dam at the Granite Springs Reservoir. Later, the weather data lured us to Carpenter, but nothing strong developed near there. Towards the end of the daylight hours we were a little east of storms that were southwest of Chugwater, WY, and the lightning was frequent enough to set up the camera tripods.
