Following a few days of rest at home in California, I flew back to the Plains this day to hook back up with the tour and to resume my duties as tour director. I arrived in Denver midday, was picked up by Matt, and we headed towards central Nebraska. Chris and Tour 5 were somewhere in the Sandhills near U.S. 83, I think. It appeared that the best severe threat by late afternoon would be from about Lincoln County to Custer County. Tornados were not expected.
Storms started to develop around North Platte as we motored eastward, and then additional ones went up in the vicinity of Cozad. These were high-based, marginally severe and marginally interesting. We wound up west of one cell, with a nice double rainbow at sunset. Another storm northeast of Cozad was a good lightning producer at dusk in nice light. The tour group observed the same nice lightning show on the north side of the storm.
