Today’s severe risk was over eastern New Mexico, but again the low-level moisture was far too meager to provide a tornado threat. We were quickly on a couple of high-based storms just north of I-40, west of Santa Rosa. These showed some organization, and we stayed ahead of them by using a dirt road due south towards Vaughn. The road became a bit sketchy halfway to Vaughn, but the rain and hail stayed away!
A heavy core descended upon Vaughn as we arrived. The storm was not particularly interesting, and we gave up on this area halfway to Roswell. We went back to the northeast to Fort Sumner and watched some new, high-based stuff. The highlight of the day was somewhere around Melrose, at sunset, thanks to the colors on the storm clouds.
