On this Thursday evening, Tom T. and I headed northwest on I-5 from Santa Clarita to Frazier Park and vicinity to shoot Comet Neowise. We found a nice side road along a mountainside near the Chuchupate Ranger Station. This provided a perfect view towards the north-northwest, i.e., the area where the comet would be setting later in the evening. There was no moon and the weather was perfect. The sky was as clear as it could have been, and we were above the coastal marine layer at an elevation near 6000 feet! The only minor negative was that we were shooting towards the bright lights of Bakersfield. Towards the NNW was the murky yellow haze of the Central Valley.
The comet and its long tail became easily visible to the naked eye by about 9:30 p.m. I had two tripods set up: one with the long lens (70-200mm) and one with the 50mm f1.4. These provided a good variety of shots!
