Bob Gregg has been observing the weather in Glendale, California, since the early 1950s!  He writes:  “Daily observations actually began in March, 1952…I observed at 7:45am before I left for school and 3:45pm when I got back. I was only 12.  In December, 1971 I moved to Santa Ynez and observed for the Santa Barbara Flood Control District.   In May, 1974, I moved to Santa Ana where I observed for Orange County Flood Control.  I came back to Glendale in June, 1977.   I have been an observer for L.A. County Flood Control District since 1962 and have been awarded observer of the year three times.”

The map below shows Bob’s station locations in and around the Glendale area since the 1950s.  His current Glendale station has been at the same location since 1977.  It is just west of the Oakmont Country Club, a few miles north of downtown Glendale at an elevation of 1375 feet.

Notes from Bob:  Beginning in the late 1970s are references to “office,” “cabin’ and “RMRC.”    My office was in downtown Glendale just two blocks east of the main post office.  I observe for LA County Flood Control starting June, 1978.   There are three other locations all within one mile of each other with precip records  starting July, 1912.   “Cabin” refers to my station on the north shore of Big Bear Lake just west of Fawnskin.   Here I recorded the weather for San Bernardino Flood Control from January 1975 to Aug. 2017 at 6,805 feet elevation.   “RMRC” is a station at a condo I owned at Rancho Mirage Racquet Club in Rancho Mirage just east of Palm Springs.   I recorded the weather for Riverside Flood Control District from June, 1980 to Feb., 2014 at an elevation of 250 feet.
