Start: Dodge City
Lunch: Woodward/Braums
End: Wichita Falls (476 miles)
Today’s severe risk extended from the Red River to the Red River, from the ND/MN border through Iowa and to Wichita Falls, Texas. SPC gave us another brown 5 percent swath inside of a slight risk. There wasn’t an arrow meteorologically which said “go here” for the tornado. I was torn between northern Oklahoma and southern Oklahoma, and after lunch in Woodward I had the tour group meandering around areas a little northwest of Oklahoma City.
It finally became apparent that we needed to head south. We got in front of a supercell or two near Anadarko, but these were relatively ho-hum. Additional activity developed to our southwest, so we continued to Lawton and a bit southwest of there to Chattanooga. A rather impressive supercell provided a really nice lightning show to our west towards sunset.
I managed one good CG image. Later, we spent an hour after dusk watching another severe storm near Cookietown.
