Dr. Roy Spencer has compared summer maximums between Death Valley/Furnace Creek (DV/FC) and the USCRN station Stovepipe Wells 1SW. He has also, apparently, checked out some of my write-ups on the exposure concerns with the official NWS/NPS Death Valley station. Spencer has concluded that there is good reason to be skeptical on some of the high temperatures at the DV/FC station.
Roy’s blog entry for this matter is here.
Unfortunately, there is reason to believe the maximums of 130F at DV/FC in 2020 and 2021 are a little too high, by maybe a degree or two, as I have demonstrated here on Stormbruiser! It is great to know that there are highly-respected climatologists getting onboard with my findings.
