The early May chase woes are in full force as Tour 2 continues. \u00a0The shear is modest and the moisture is meager, with dew points in the 40s! \u00a0Whoopy!<\/p>\n
High-based storms were developing around Devils Tower, and we waited in the area with the best air and instability, near Rapid City. \u00a0A storm that approached from the Sturgis area looked strong for a bit, and we headed east on 34 from 79 to stay ahead of it. We stopped, spotted another good-looking cell to our northwest, and I elected to get close to it, north of 34 on 79. \u00a0Soon, a handful of storms seemed to be going up, and they were spilling a lot of cool outflow. \u00a0We blasted east on 212 from Newell to Faith to try to stay a little ahead of the activity. \u00a0I think that the warnings had the cells moving east at about 50 mph. \u00a0We tried to squeeze in a quick pit stop at Faith, and wound up watching a lot of wind and dust sweep through, with a little lightning. \u00a0From here we continued to the east, hoping for maybe something pretty around sunset near the Missouri River, but the sky was not cooperating. \u00a0We found a decent eatery on the western edge of Gettysburg (along the river) to end the day. \u00a0I never picked up the camera, so there are no photos for this entry!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
