I set up for another try at the Vandenberg rocket launch from San Nicolas Island, and witnessed a very bright meteor instead! \u00a0The launch was scrubbed at about the time the meteor occurred. \u00a0My camera was on the tripod and pointed to the WNW, and I did not hit the shutter release for the 5-second exposure until about the time the meteor was flaring out. \u00a0The meteor descended, low in the sky, towards the bottom of the frame. \u00a0The lens was a wide-angle 21mm, so the meteor is not particularly impressive. \u00a0The vapor trail persisted for at least ten minutes! \u00a0The image above is heavily cropped, the one below on the left is lightly cropped.<\/p>\n
