Andy and I had noticed a shiny object, all by itself, out in the distance to the west of Nicktown on San Nicolas Island. \u00a0On the day prior to this one we hiked about halfway to it from the town area. \u00a0This route required navigating through a couple of steep ravines. \u00a0We thought that it was closer than it was! \u00a0It was still WAY out there after about 30 minutes of hiking. \u00a0I zoomed in on it with the long lens, and it looked like a teepee. \u00a0A shiny silver teepee. \u00a0It was weird.<\/p>\n

After work the next day we tried to get close to it by taking a road from the top of the island down towards the northwest coastline. \u00a0We stopped about 3\/4 mile from the thing and started our walk through the grassy fields. \u00a0The object is about five feet high and looked like something that might reflect radar beams. \u00a0Later I learned that it is called a “corner reflector.” The island has plenty of radars, so it is not terribly surprising that one of these things is in place!<\/p>\n
