Cedar Crest is a lonely, semi-abandoned cafe, fuel stop and farmstead along Route 10, halfway between Walsenburg and La Junta. Maybe it is completely abandoned. Nobody and no ghosts chased us away. We wound up there as we groped along the front range from Santa Fe to Trinidad for anything resembling fun clouds. A bland-looking cell, from the radar’s perspective, was moving southeast from the Pueblo area. It showed some promise, at least photographically, as we neared Walsenburg from the south. A storm intercept ensued. The cell was fairly benign, but the laminar banding and stark scenery were nice. As we headed towards La Junta for the night, I spotted the little “ghost town” on the north side of Highway 10. The spots were removed upon departure.<\/p>\n
