Start: Shamrock, TX/lunch: Hasty’s in Shamrock/End: Lawton, OK/273 miles
(June 5 and 6 entries at bottom)
Once again SPC had our hopes somewhat high, with an enhanced risk and 5% tornado area in central Oklahoma. We wound up on storms which were a tad south of the outlined area, and these cells really struggled to get strong. Shear was great, but low-level instability looked to be insufficient. The first storm intercepted was near Lawton, and then we went north to one near Apache, OK.

Looks like we stopped for a bit in Texola.

Let’s add the next two days on to this entry.
June 5, 2024 Start: Lawton/lunch: Sunrise Cafe in Altus/End: Turkey/169 miles
A down day with a stay at Hotel Turkey

June 6, 2024 Start: Turkey/lunch: Refz Sports Bar in Clarendon/End: Hugoton, KS/319 miles
SPC was right about this day —- high-based and outflowish junk in the eastern Texas Panhandle. We blew it off early enough to get up to Hugoton for the night, which helped a lot given that central Nebraska was the next day’s target.
