Start: Denver/lunch: Grab and Go Subway in North Platte/End: Grand Island/716 miles
We had to make the long drive from Denver to eastern Nebraska to give the new Tour 7 guests a look at severe weather this Saturday. At York, Nebraska, there was some rather junky convection a county or two south, and it looked like the much better play would be to get north towards some newer development to our northwest, between Albion and Norfolk. At Madison we headed west some and had a look at a somewhat intriguing supercell with an elongated base (first photo below). Towards its southwest end, to our west, a skinny tornado touched down and stirred up the dirt for a few minutes.
We tried to get close to another beefy supercell and action area to our east, near West Point, but the thing was moving eastward a little too quickly. We wound up with some pretty structure near sunset somewhere SSW of West Point (second photo below). It was worth the long drive, and we got a tornado out of the deal!
