June 17, 2024 A Cap Bust in the Sandhills

SPC Day One

Hopes and dreams were elevated a bit on this chase day, but the cap won out. We observed some semi-strong storm towers northwest of Tryon, NE, in the Sandhills. They struggled and struggled while drifting northward, and eventually it was obvious that it wasn’t worth continuing northward on our little narrow but paved Sandhills road which led us to a small church. There was one aborted attempt to approach that cell down south, between Imperial and Wallace, but that one sputtered also.
