Our second attempt to get one of our van windshields replaced in Lubbock was successful. SPC preferred western Kansas on the tornado threat today, but I saw no reason to make our way that far north. I liked the supercell prospects in the western Texas Panhandle. We watched a storm develop into a supercell NW of Dimmitt. This one moved towards Hereford, to the northeast. Meanwhile, another big storm developed just to our south, very close to Dimmitt. I tried to get into position a little south of Dimmitt, but the hail risk looked really bad. While in town, some one-to-two-inch hail began, and we scampered to some protective covering…barely saving the windshields again. Some chasers tried their luck heading south on 385 out of Dimmitt, and they were pounded by 3-3.5-inch hailstones.

These supercells never appeared to be too interested in producing tornadoes. I headed east to the Kress area to view another supercell around dusk. The western Kansas tornados did not materialize.
