Our group was forced well to the south in order to be near any development along the cold front. SPC showed the best chance for tornadoes along and east of I-35, but that wound up being an early show (before 19Z) and then a squally mess in the trees — no thanks. We continued past Del Rio and finally had something bubbling around sunset, east of Laredo. We stopped north to northwest of the activity to try our luck at lightning photography.
Activity gradually increased in intensity during the night, once we were safely in our hotel rooms in Laredo. One storm in Zapata County, not too far south of Laredo at San Ygnacio, produced softball-sized hail around 2 a.m.
