about 300 miles
This was a fun chase day as we stayed with strong convection that was moving along U.S. 30 from about Chappell to Ogallala and North Platte. The initial activity in the southern Nebraska Panhandle was quite high-based, but it took on some supercell characteristics and the bases lowered, and the wall clouds occasionally had that “maybe I might get interesting” look. The storms started to spill a lot of cold outflow, and soon we were racing eastward to stay in front of a nasty windstorm. This was from about Ogallala to North Platte.
As skies darkened east of North Platte, we stopped to allow rain and wind to pass by. The CG show got really good, and we stopped on an elevated overpass (at Maxwell?) to watch. I managed to get some handheld shots through the side window.
